EMU Volleyball Releases 2016 Schedule

The Eagles will compete in 13 non-conference matches, including co-hosting a tournament with Michigan
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Volleyball Coach Kimi Olson has announced the regular season schedule for the upcoming 2016 campaign. This year, the Eagles will see four non-conference tournaments before EMU hits the 16-match Mid-American Conference schedule. In addition to its 13 non-conference matches, the Green and White will be co-hosting a tournament with the University of Michigan in the final weekend of the non-conference slate, Sept. 17-18. The 2016 campaign will mark the second season with Olson leading the Eagles, while it also signifies the 40th season of varsity volleyball competition at EMU.
The Green and White will open the season by traveling to College Park, Md. to take part in a tournament hosted by the University of Maryland, Aug. 26-27. Eastern's season opener will pit the Eagles against the Terrapins at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26. EMU will finish out that tournament with a doubleheader Saturday, Aug. 27, where they will take on Sacred Heart University at 1 p.m., and Delaware State University at 4 p.m.
The Eagles' second tournament of the season will take place in Cleveland, Ohio, when the Green and White head to Cleveland State University, Sept. 2-3. Eastern will square off with the host Vikings Friday morning, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. before taking on the University of Tennessee later that day at 2:30 p.m. EMU will close out that tournament with a 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Sept. 3, match versus Wright State University in Kent, Ohio.
The Eagles next non-conference tilt will be EMU's lone midweek contest, as Eastern will square off with IPFW Tuesday night, Sept. 6. The match is slated for 6 p.m. in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The following weekend, Eastern will travel to Charleston, S.C. and take part in a tournament hosted by the College of Charleston, Sept. 9-10. The Eagles begin that tournament with a match against Charleston Southern University Friday, Sept. 9, at 4:30 p.m., before taking part in a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 10. The double dip will start with a match versus Virginia Commonwealth University Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. EMU closes out the tournament with a contest against CofC at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
The Eagles will complete the non-conference portion of their schedule with a tournament they are co-hosting with the University of Michigan. Eastern will play one road match in the tournament at Michigan Saturday, Sept. 17, with a time to be set later. EMU will take on Auburn University at the Convocation Center Saturday night at 7 p.m. before concluding the non-conference slate Sunday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. when Colgate comes to the Convo.
Following non-conference play, the Eagles will close out the season with 16-straight MAC matches, vying for one of the coveted top-eight spots to qualify for the 2016 MAC Volleyball Tournament at the Ohio University Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio, Nov. 17-20. Ohio will host the tournament after winning the MAC Tournament a season ago.
