EMU Athletics Receives $100,000 Challenge Gift to Support Baseball

An anonymous donor will match gifts up to $100,000 to support EMU baseball
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics announced today that EMU baseball has received a $100,000 challenge gift from an anonymous donor and advocate of the program.
The gift, in support of renovating the Oestrike Stadium infield, was made with a challenge to other EMU alumni, friends and fans to step forward and rally together around the effort. The current infield turf is nearly 10 years old after being installed prior to the 2007 campaign. In addition, the newly revived Script E logo will be featured in the new turf and pay homage to E-Club Hall of Fame Head Coach Ron Oestrike and the teams of the past.
The renovation of the Oestrike Stadium playing surfaces is the utmost priority for second year Head Baseball Coach Mark Van Ameyde. "I want to express how thankful we are for the generous gift towards this project," stated Van Ameyde. "New turf will allow us to play on one of the best surfaces in the country as well as being able to get on the field under all kinds of conditions. It will also greatly enhance player development and the recruitment of high quality student-athletes."
The total estimated cost of the project is $350,000 with the goal of constructing the new infield in time for 2016 fall baseball. Every gift made until Aug. 1 in support of the project will be matched by the challenge gift up to $100,000.

"The renovation of the Oestrike Stadium infield to the latest synthetic turf will significantly improve the practice and competitive experience for our student-athletes.
