Pole Vault Leads Eagles on First Day of MAC Championships

Day One Results
TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team opened the first day of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships today, May 12. The Eagles finished the day in fifth place, amassing a total of 10 points following day one in their quest to complete the trio of cross country, indoor, and outdoor MAC titles.
The Eagles nabbed a top-three spot in the pole vault, as senior Ellie Braidic (Pandora, Ohio – Pandora-Gilboa) finished third after posting a personal-best mark of 4.13 meters/ 13 feet 6.50-inches. The senior's vault boosted her to third in the EMU record books, jumping Hana Palamaa from 2001. Additionally, juniors Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich. – Grand Rapids Christian) and Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio – Fairmont) finished seventh and eighth with vaults of 4.03 meters/ 13 feet 2.5-inches and 3.88 meters/ 12 feet 8.75-inches, respectively.
The Green and White picked up a point in the javelin throw as well. Junior Kristina Coyne (Pittsburgh, Pa. – Chartiers Valley) finished within the top-10, placing eighth with a mark of 37.93 meters/ 124 feet 5.5-inches. Also participating in the event was redshirt senior Reagan Briggs (Bloomdale, Ohio – Elmwood), who finished with a throw of 29.93 meters/ 98 feet 2.5-inches.
With one day of the heptathlon in the books, freshman Rebekah Carr (Celina, Ohio – Celina) currently sits in 11th after totaling 2383 points through the first four events. Beginning with the 100m hurdles, Carr clocked in at 16.14 to earn 697 points. From there, she turned in her top performance on the day, taking ninth in the high jump with a mark of 1.52 meters/ 4 feet 11.75-inches, which was a career-best. The shot put saw Carr nab another personal-best, notching a throw of 8.54 meters/ 28 feet 0.5-inches. Finally, the Celina, Ohio native rounded out the first day with the 200m dash, where she crossed the finish line in 28.29.
The 10,000m run was cancelled for the day due to inclement weather. The race will instead take place tomorrow morning, May 13, at 8:30 a.m. Following the 10000m run, the second day of competition will continue as scheduled at 10 a.m., as both the decathlon and heptathlon will pick up with the second half events.
