Spartan Invitational Information

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – After a packed weekend of competition in Kalamazoo, as well as on the west coast, the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team now turns their attention towards the Spartan Invitational, April 8-9. The Eagles will look to continue their success so far in the offseason with another solid outing.

Last weekend, the Eagles walked away with a dual victory against Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan, April 1, by a score of 109-82. The Green and White took home many event victories, beginning with freshman Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. – Slidell) winning the 100m in 11.85, while senior Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind. – John Adams) claimed gold in the 200m after clocking in at 24.49. Additionally, sophomore Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium – Sportschol KA2) took top-honors in the 800m with a time of 2:15.63, and fellow sophomore Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. – Chippewa Valley) nabbed first in the 1500m by clocking in with a career-best time of 4:38.92.

Continuing the trend, senior Amy Frauhammer (Saline, Mich. – Saline) claimed gold in the 3000m after posting a personal-best time of 10:12.14. Senior Maya Carter (Racine, Wis. – Case) won the 100m hurdles in a career-best 14.00. Eastern also claimed the 4x100m relay title, along with a pair of wins in the jumps. Sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) won both the long jump and the triple jump, edging out two teammates who took second. Senior Ellie Braidic (Pandora, Ohio – Pandora-Gilboa) claimed the pole vault title, and finally junior Kristina Coyne (Pittsburgh, Pa. – Chartiers Valley) took gold in the javelin with a personal-best mark of 37.27 meters/ 122 feet 3-inches.

Finally, out on the west coast, junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) turned in a historic performance in the 5000m, clocking in at 15:58.61. Her time set a new program record, and was nearly 30 seconds faster than her top 5000m time of the indoor season.

The Spartan Invite is slated to begin Friday, April 8, at 11 a.m. with the pole vault in Jenison Fieldhouse due to the possibility of inclement weather. Action will resume Saturday, April 9, at 9:40 a.m. with the 1500m. The meet is scheduled to conclude at 4:40 p.m. with the 4x400m relay. For more information on the meet, please click here.
