SYLVANIA, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) posted top-10 finishes as the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team posted its best finish at the Mid-American Conference Championship since 2012, closing the tournament  in second place Saturday, April 30, at Highland Meadows Golf Club.

Kent State captured its 23rd team title in program history with a four-round score of  16-over par 1,152 (288-291-285-288), 20 strokes ahead of runner-up Eastern Michigan at 36-over par 1,172 (288-295-296-293).

Individually, Akron's George Baylis claimed individual medalist honors with a tally of one-under par 283 (76-72-68-67) in a field of 45 players, four shots ahead of runner-ups EMU's Rodes (70-77-70-70), Kent State's Ian Holt (73-72-70-72) and Northern Illinois' Joo-Young Lee (72-67-73-75) at three-over par 287.

Rodes' second place finish is the best by an Eagle since 2008 when Peter Sauerbrei was the runner-up with a three-day total of 287. It is also just the third time an EMU student-athlete finished in second at the conference tournament. Additionally, it marked the first career top-five finish for the Plymouth, Mich. native, as he closed with back-to-back rounds of 70 to grab All-Tournament team accolades.

White also captured his share of hardware en route to tieing for seventh with a 289 (66-75-73-75), as the senior was voted Second Team All-MAC as well as the Earl Yestingsmeier Sportsmanship Award winner.  The Caledonia, Mich. product finished with an average of 73.03 strokes per round, which ranked as the eighth-best single-season scoring average in school history.  He finished inside the top-10 on three occasions, while posting 10 rounds of par-or-better.

Voted by the players at the Championships, the Earl Yestingmeier Sportsman of the Year award recognizes the senior golfer whom other  players  most  enjoy  playing  or  conversing  with;  has  good  rapport  with  his  own   team; is supportive of hi s own team, but also respects the competition; makes players feel comfortable to be around her; commands respect and esteem rather than merely being popular and would consider to be worthy of representing men's intercollegiate golf to others. White is just the third Eastern Michigan player to earn the honor since 1981, joining former greats Marc Dingman (1982) and Bob McNiff (1985).

Sophomore Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary School) closed with a 75 for a 299 (74-74-76-75) in 18th and Jake McNulty (Port Perry, Ontario, Canada-Port Perry-VCU) placed 22nd with a 302 (79-73-77-73). Freshman Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) had a solid showing in his first championship experience, posting a 34th place finish at 306 (78-73-77-78).

The Eagles will now wait to see if they have earned a spot in the NCAA Regionals.
