STANFORD, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) –
Although most of the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team was in Kalamazoo, Mich. a select number of distance runners traveled to the west coast to take part in the Stanford Invitational today, April 1. The highlight of the day came in the 5000m, where an Eagle runner set a new program record.

Beginning with the 3000m steeplechase, senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium – University of Leuven) crossed the finish line in 10:16.90, which put her in 10th. Moving to the 5000m, junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) had an impressive race, clocking in at 15:58.61 to place fourth. Her time was nearly 30 seconds better than her top 5000m time of the indoor season, and was also the best in program history. Finally, sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison) crossed the 10000m finish line in 34:21.18 to ultimately finish 27th.

The Green and White continue the outdoor season next weekend in East Lansing, Mich., with the Spartan Invitational, April 8-9.
