Green and White Return to Midwest for Jesse Owens Classic

The Eagles continue their outdoor season with a meet in Columbus, Ohio
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – After spending the previous week on the west coast in California, the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team returns to the Midwest to compete in the Jesse Owens Classic, April 22-23, in Columbus, Ohio.
Last weekend, the Eagles competed in a trio of meets, including the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, April 13-16. While there, the Green and White posted a number of career-bests, including a new program record. Redshirt senior Keith Williams (Sherman, Ill. – Williamsville) broke his own EMU record in the hammer throw, notching a mark of 63.24 meters/ 297 feet 5.75-inches, which sits at No. 42 nationally when it comes to furthest throws this season. Taking part in the 5000m elite race, redshirt junior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio – Maumee) set a new personal-best as well, crossing the finish line in 13:43.06 to come within three seconds of EMU great Gordon Minty. Fink's time is also currently No. 9 nationally, and is just six seconds out from the top-spot. Additionally, senior Jeff Elam (Latrobe, Pa. – Greater Latrobe Senior) had a solid few days as well, turning in a pair of top-three finishes in the 400m hurdles at Mt SAC, as well as the Beach Invitational. His top time came at the Mt SAC Relays, where he clocked in at 52.25, putting him at the No. 50 spot so far this season.
Action from the Buckeye State is slated to begin Friday at 2 p.m. with the women's javelin throw and the men's discus throw. Track events will start at 6:45 p.m. with the women's 5000m, and end at 9:15 with the men's 3000m steeplechase. On Saturday, the day begins with the men's pole vault at 10 a.m., and concludes at 4:05 p.m. with the men's 4x400m relay. For more information, and a complete schedule of events, please click here.
