Fink Selected as MAC Track Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference announced today, April 19, that redshirt junior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio – Maumee) of the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team was named MAC Track Athlete of the Week. His first honor of the outdoor season comes on the heels of his incredible race at the Mt SAC Relays, April 15.
Specifically, Fink ran in the 5000m elite race against some of the top runners in the nation. There, he clocked in at 13:43.06, setting a new personal-record by eight seconds. Additionally, his time also brought him within three seconds of the second fastest 5000m time in EMU history, which was run by Gordon Minty in 1972. Finally, Fink's time puts him within the top-10 nationally so far this season, coming in at No. 9.
The honor is the second for Fink this year, as he was also honored once during the indoor season. Fink and the Green and White continue the outdoor campaign this weekend, April 22-23, at the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
