Kriegshauser is the third Eagle to earn the award this season
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – After playing a key role in the Eastern Michigan University softball team's four wins last week, junior Michelle Kriegshauser (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln Way Central) was named Mid-American Conference West Division Co-Player of the Week. The league office's announcement, April 18, marked the third time an Eagle has earned the award this season and second career accolade for Kriegshauser.
Kriegshauser led the Eagles' offensive effort over the course of the week. Hitting .563 at the plate with an .812 slugging percentage, the New Lenox, Ill. product finished the week with a team-best nine hits, three of which were of the extra base variety. Additionally, the junior outfielder added four RBI's and scored four runs to pace the Green and White.
In five games, Kriegshauser registered four multi-hit efforts. Her week got underway with a 2-for-4 showing versus Oakland, April 12, in which she recorded her second triple of the season and scored a run. Kriegshauser then fueled the Eagles to a come-from-behind win over Toledo, April 13, again going 2-for-4, while adding an RBI and scoring a run. Kriegshauser's week came to a close with a pair of 2-for-3 showings versus Ball State, April 16, helping the Eagles to their first three-game sweep of a MAC opponent in program history. In game two of the three-game set, Kriegshauser's RBI double in the third inning gave EMU an insurance run in a 2-0 victory. In the final game of the weekend series, Kriegshauser played a key role in EMU's nine-run sixth inning, capping the frame with an RBI single in Eastern Michigan's 15-11 comeback win.
The Eagles continue MAC play this weekend, April 22-23, when they play host to the Huskies of Northern Illinois. The three-game set gets underway Friday, April 22, at 3 p.m. at Varsity Field.
