YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University tennis senior Klara Supejova will be playing in her final regular season match as an Eagle Friday, April 15, when the Green and White (4-14, 1-4 MAC) squares off with the University of Toledo for a 1 p.m. match at the Claudia Wasik Tennis Complex. In her previous three seasons, Supejova is a perfect 4-0 in singles play against the Rockets (8-11, 2-4 MAC) and 2-2 in doubles play. At the conclusion of the match, there will be a short presentation to honor Supejova's career at EMU. Following EMU's match with Toledo, the Green and White will head to Oxford, Ohio to square off with reigning Mid-American Conference champion Miami University, April 17.
The Rockets are entering the match against Eastern after finishing on the wrong end of a 5-2 decision at the hands of Western Michigan University, April 10. Last season, the Eagles defeated the Rockets by a score of 4-3 in a pair of matches, including the first round of the 2015 Mid-American Conference Tournament. The overall series between the two squads sits at 29-8 in favor of the Eagles. Eastern has recorded victories in the last three matches versus UT and looks to make it four on Friday afternoon.
Coming off of the 2015 Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament championships, Miami (8-9, 3-1 MAC) is one of three squads who have dropped just one MAC dual. Overall in the Eagles and RedHawks' program history, the Green and White is just 6-34 in the 40 matches between the two squads. In fact, EMU has dropped its last 12 matches against Miami. The Eagles have not defeated MU since April 2, 2005 when they came away with a 5-2 victory in Ypsilanti. Eastern is looking to avenge a pair of losses from last season, including a 4-1 decision in the 2015 MAC Tournament Championship match.
As the 2016 tennis season nears the close, each match will prove to be pivitol as teams jockey for position in the 2016 Mid-American Conference Tournament, April 29-May 1. Currently, the Eagles are on the outside looking in and hold eighth place in the standings, but a win over Toledo would tie the Green and White for sixth place in the conference.
