The honor is the first of Bond's career
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Mid-American Conference announced today, March 5, that sophomore guard Tim Bond (Baltimore, Md. - City College High School) was named MAC West Player of the Week after leading the Eagles to a pair of wins over the previous week. This marks the first time that Bond has won the award.
Bond led the Eagles to two victories to close out the 2015-16 campaign, locking up the No. 8 seed in the 2016 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Tournament and securing home court advantage in the first round. The 6-foot-7 guard put together remarkable games on both ends of the floor. In the Eagles' win over Northern Illinois, the Baltimore, Md. native put up a team best 17 points, while connecting on six field goal attempts, the most important of which was a game winner from beyond the arc with just 3.5 seconds left in the game. In addition to his heroics on the offensive end, Bond pulled down six rebounds and dished out a pair of assists, while picking the Huskies' pocket on four occasions.
With home court advantage in the first round of the MAC tournament on the line in the regular season finale at Toledo, Bond showed up strong, especially on the defensive end of the floor. The sophomore stole the ball from the Rockets on seven occasions, tying the third-most in a single season game in EMU history. He was no slouch on the offensive end either, finishing the contest with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting with five asssists and six rebounds.
Overall on the week, Bond averaged 15 points, six rebounds, 5.5 steals, 3.5 assists, and a block per game. In addition, the sophomore was a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe, while connecting on 52.4 percent of his field goal attempts.
The Eagles will play host to Toledo for the first round of the MAC Tournament, Monday, March 7. Tip-off from the Convo is slated for 7:30 p.m., and is the tail-end of a double-header.
