YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University wrestling has completed its regular season and now turns its sights to the Mid-American Conference Championships.  The tournament will be held at EMU's own Convocation Center for the first time since 2009.  The tournament takes place over two days, Saturday, March 5-Sunday March, 6.
    
    Both days of the championships will be streamed live on ESPN 3 with Joel Godett providing the play-by-play and former Michigan State grappler Eric Olanowski giving the analysis.  Live EMU results will also be posted on our Twitter account, @EMUWrestling.

ALL-TIME AT MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS: Since joining the conference in 1971-72, EMU has captured one team Conference title and have had 25 individuals win a conference title.  EMU's team title came in 1996 when it won five of the 10 weight classes.  Its last individual champion came in 2009 when 197 pounder John McClure won the crown.

LAST SEASON AT THE MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS: Eastern secured an eighth overall place with 28.5 points, while No. 1 the University of Missouri took the title for the third-straight season with 139.5 points. The Tigers dominated the field with five individual champions, while No. 22 Old Dominion placed second with 97.5 team points.  Eastern earned one NCAA automatic bid when 197 pounder Anthony Abro took fifth place by going 2-2 in the championships.

LAST TIME HOSTING: The Eagles last hosted the conference's premier event in 2009 whe it was held at the Convocation Center.  That season EMU finished fifth with 36.5 points and had its first MAC champion since 2007 when John McClure won the 197 lbs. crown.

FIVE WRESTLERS RANKED BY NCAA: In the final NCAA Coaches Panel rankings, four EMU grapplers found themselves in the top-33.  Nicholas Barber (No. 23, 149 lbs.), Jacob Davis (No. 32, 174 lbs.), Anthony Abro (No. 24, 197 lbs.) and Gage Hutchison (No. 27, 285 lbs.) were all ranked in the poll.  The Coaches Panel is one of three measurements used to determine qualifying spots in the NCAA Tournament in March, along with winning percentage and ratings percentage index (RPI).

    In the RPI, EMU also has four wrestlers ranked; Kyle Springer (No. 24, 141 lbs.), Barber (28th), Davis (33rd) and Abro (29th).

EMU MAC PRE-SEEDING: The Mid-American Conference announced its pre-seeding for the MAC Championships, March 1.  Here is a look at where EMU stands going into the tournament.

NCAA ALLOCATIONS: The NCAA announced its allocations at each weight class Feb. 25, with the MAC earning 41 spots, the third most in the country.  Class-by-class the conference has 125 (4), 133 (6), 141 (4), 149 (5), 157 (5), 165 (4), 174 (3), 184 (4), 197 (5) and HWT (1).
