Thompson was named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year after averaging 14.8 points per game and a conference high 10.7 rebounds per game. In addition to his MAC Freshman of the Year honor, Thompson is the first Eagle to be named to both the Second Team All-MAC and All-Freshman team since Bowdry. Additionally, Thompson broke the Eastern Michigan freshman single season scoring record by posting 490 points during the 2015-16 campaign, while also grabbing 352 rebounds, good for the third-most in a single season at EMU, and the most by a freshman donning the Green and White.
