YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team will begin Mid-American Conference play this weekend when it hosts the University of Akron, March 25, and the University at Buffalo, March 27. Both matches are slated for 1 p.m. starts at either the Chippewa Racquet Club or the Claudia Wasik Tennis Complex, dependent on weather.
EMU and Akron have seen the court versus each other in 29 matches. The Green and White has been dominant over the Zips, commanding a 24-5 edge all-time. The Eagles dispatched UA in a tight 4-3 final last year in Akron, March 20. In that match, the Eagles began the dual by taking the top-two doubles matches as Klara Supejova and Andrea Martinovska dispatched Martina Zerbola and Sophia Geier easily, 6-2, while Ani Gogvadze and Maria Paula Ribero came away from the No. 2 match with a 6-1 victory. EMU split its singles matches, grabbing the 4-3 win in Akron.
The Eagles have met the Bulls on 16 separate occasions and hold a 10-6 edge in the all-time series. Last season, the Green and White traveled to UB, March 22. Eastern wound up on the wrong side of a 5-2 decision at the UB Tennis Center. After dropping the doubles point, the Eagles took just two of the six singles matches as Martinovska and Supejova each came away with victories.
