Duncan Prepares for NCAA Championships

ATLANTA (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving freshman breaststroke phenom Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) will close out her stellar season at the NCAA Championships this week, March 17-19. Duncan was the lone Eagle selected to compete at nationals and is set to take part in the 100 Breaststroke this week.

The first freshman in Eastern Michigan history to qualify for nationals, Duncan enters the race as the 14th-seeded swimmer after claiming the Mid-American Conference title with a career-best time of 59.46. Her time shattered the school, meet, and MAC record.

Duncan's MAC Championship finish is just a touch over two seconds off Indiana's Lillia King's top-seeded time of 57.35. Additionally, the Galesburg, Ill. product is one of seven freshmen in the field of 39 selected to compete in the event.

In her first collegiate season, Duncan has been a consistent point-scorer in dual meets for the Green and White. Winning the event seven times this season, the freshman phenom has shaved nearly five seconds off her time over the course of the year. She first tied the school record in the event, Jan. 23, before breaking the mark, Jan. 29, leading up to her first-place finish at the MAC Championships.

Duncan's NCAA Championship quest begins Friday, March 18, in Atlanta, Ga. Fans can keep up with the action through live results or live stream.
