AUGUSTA, Ga. (EMUEagles.com) - After day one of play at the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team sits in a three-way tie for seventh-place. The Eagles shot 13-over par, 301, on the first day of play at Forest Hills Golf Club, March 11.
Junior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) carded a 70, coming in two-under par on the day to lead the Green and White. Murphy's round one score comes in just one stroke of tournament leaders, Alice Chen (Furman) and Jessica Haigwood (Augusta). Senior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario-St. Augistine Secondary School) finished the day four strokes behind Murphy, posting a 74, and is currently tied for 17th. Rounding out the scoring for EMU was senior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) and sophomore Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) who posted rounds of 76 and 81, respectively.
With bad weather looming, a change in the schedule for this weekend's outing will have the Eagles returning to the course tomorrow, March 12, for 36 holes of play. The day will get underway with a shotgun start time of 8:30 a.m.
