The Women’s Track and Field Team also placed one on Second Team
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- After repeating as Mid-American Conference Indoor Champions, the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team placed six student-athletes on the All-MAC First Team today, Feb. 29. The Eagles, who won their fifth title overall, also had one more on the second team.
Leading the way on the first team was junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83), who took home the title in both the mile and the 5000m. Bogdanova's 5000m time, just ahead of teammate Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison), was also a MAC Championship record. Additionally, Bogdanova was named Most Valuable Performer following the meet. McDermitt also won an event of her own, taking the crown in the 3000m to lead an EMU sweep in the event.
Also earning first team honors was the entire distance medley relay group of freshman Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community), junior Khadesha James (Irvington, N.J. - Irvington), sophomore Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. - Chippewa Valley), and senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - University of Leuven). The group clocked in at 11:31.11, taking the title and also etching themselves into the EMU record books with the fourth best time in program history.
Finally, freshman Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. - Slidell) finished with All-MAC Second Team honors after posting a second-place finish in the 60m dash finals by crossing the finish line in 7.50. Harris was also named the Freshman Track Performer of the Year following the conclusion of the meet.
The Green and White now have a break from competition before starting the outdoor season in late March with a meet in Raleigh, N.C. However, select individuals may travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the NCAA Indoor Championships, March 11-12.
