Eagles Record Two Top-Three Finishes on Day One of MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team turned in two top-three finishes on day one of the Mid-American Conference Championships, Feb. 24. With day one in the books, the Eagles currently sit in second place with 66 points.

The Green and White relay team made up of junior Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area), freshman Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg), freshman Dora Vrcic, and senior Mary Kate MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-Detroit Country Day) placed second in the 200 Medley Relay. The Eagles touched in with a season-best time of 1:38.58, behind only Akron. EMU's scorching time broke the school record, ranking as the fastest time in Eastern laurels.

In the second event of the evening, Eastern clocked in with a time of 7:18.68 to claim third in 800 Freestyle Relay with another season-best time. The third-place finish by senior Becca Detro (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel), freshman Emilie Desnoyers, and juniors Sierra Wagner (Huntsville, Texas-Huntsville) and Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) pushed EMU's point total to 66 through two events, two points ahead of Buffalo and eight points behind Akron.

The MAC Championships continue tomorrow, Feb. 25. Preliminary races begin at 10 a.m. before five championship heats take place in the evening beginning at 7 p.m.
