Williams Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

The sophomore hit a blistering .500 in four games this past weekend
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University sophomore designated hitter Brennan Williams (Commerce Township, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) was named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 22, the conference announced today, Feb. 24.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented weekly to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition.
The award is the first of Williams' career, and the first for EMU baseball since May of last season. Williams maintains a 3.78 grade point average as a Management major.
Williams paced the Eagles' offense in a 3-1 weekend to start the season for EMU baseball, recording wins over Nebraska-Omaha and NJIT. The sophomore DH hit a scorching .500, recording seven hits in 14 plate appearances. One of the hits was a two-run home run, the first of his career, and was apart of six RBIs on the weekend.
Racking up 11 total bases, Williams finished with a .786 slugging percentage. Not just a power threat, Williams also stole two bases on two attempts. His offensive efforts helped lead EMU to its best start since the 1994 season.
Eastern continues the season tonight in Lakeland, Fla. with the second of two games against the No. 1 Florida Gators. First pitch from Joker Marchant Stadium, the spring training home of the Detroit Tigers, is set for 7 p.m.
