YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Six total home dates including a pair of midweek tilts against West Division rivals Northern Illinois University and Central Michigan University, along with a Tuesday night contest at Ball State, highlight the 2016 Eastern Michigan football schedule released Monday, Feb. 22, by the Mid-American Conference office.
Overall, the campaign will feature six home contests at "The Factory" at Rynearson Stadium for the second consecutive season and just the 14th time since the building opened in 1969. Additionally, the three midweek contests to close the schedule are a program first since the MAC began playing nationally-televised non-Saturday November games in 1999.
An updated release of the MAC's 2016 football schedule will be released in June with kick times and a television schedule for the first three weeks of the regular season and midweek games during October and November. All other game kick times and television will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled game.
Eastern Michigan opens the season at home against Football Championship Subdivision foe Mississippi Valley State University, Sept. 2 or 3. EMU travels to the University of Missouri, Sept. 17, before playing at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The Eagles close the non-conference portion of the schedule at home against the University of Wyoming, Sept. 24.
The Green and White open its 41st season in the MAC Saturday, Oct. 1, at defending league champion Bowling Green State University before returning home for the annual homecoming contest against the University of Toledo, Oct. 8. EMU will then play back-to-back road games at Ohio University, Oct. 15, and Western Michigan University, Oct. 22, and then close out the month with a home game versus Miami University, Oct. 29.
Eastern Michigan will enjoy a bye week in week 10, as it transitions to midweek football that has become referred to in pop culture as MACtion. Third-year Head Coach Chris Creighton leads his team to Muncie, Ind. Tuesday, Nov. 8, to battle Ball State University. The West Division affair will be shown on either ESPN2 or CBS Sports Network.
A Wednesday, Nov. 16, contest inside The Factory then awaits EMU against Northern Illinois. A national television audience will be able to watch the game on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. The Eagles then close the regular season against in-state rival Central Michigan Tuesday, Nov. 22, on either ESPNU or ESPN3. The pre-Thanksiving finale marks the first time since the 2007 that the Eagles will not have to play on "Black Friday".
The league's regular season concludes with the 20th Marathon MAC Football Championship game Friday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. at Ford Field in Detroit on ESPN2. This will mark the 13th Marathon MAC Football Championship game at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, Super Bowl XL, and the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four.
Fans interested in purchasing season tickets for the upcoming season can now put down a deposit to secure their seats. For just a $25 deposit, fans can reserve a spot inside "The Factory" at Rynearson Stadium. The deposit allows fans to renew their seats from 2015 or to ensure the best available seat locations for the upcoming season. Season tickets are just $75 per seat including all six home games.
