Four Eagles Earn Academic All-MAC Honors

The Green and White had four members of its squad on the 2016 Academic All-MAC team

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University volleyball's Alyssa LaFace (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park), Devon Murray (Shelby, Ohio-Shelby), Mallory Rajewski (Midland, Mich.-Midland) and Jordan Smith (Solon, Iowa-Solon) were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team by the league office, Monday, Dec. 9.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

LaFace appeared in 27 matches for EMU, starting the majority of the matches at libero. The Allen Park, Mich. native averaged 4.09 digs per set, good for the seventh in the MAC and posted eight matches with 20-or-more digs, including a career-high of 30 at Western Michigan, Nov. 5. LaFace is an elementary education major who boasts a 3.38 grade point average.

Murray played in 28 matches this season, making 22 starts. The senior finished second on the squad with 2.13 kills per set and 226 total kills. Murray Posted 11 double-digit kill performances, including a season-best 18 kills versus Central Michigan, Nov. 10. Additionally, the Shelby, Ohio native hit at a .252 clip, which was the second-best of any frontline starter for EMU. Murray is majoring in communication and electronic film and media and she also carries a 3.91 grade point average.

Rajewski took part in 28 matches for EMU, starting in 16 of them. The Midland, Mich. native was second on the team in both assists and digs, averaging 4.56 assists and 2.19 digs per set. Rajewski notched five double-doubles on the year, while also grabbing a season-best 19 digs in EMU's match at Ohio, Oct. 8. The redshirt sophomore owns a 3.39 grade point average as an elementary education major.

Smith appeared in all 29 matches for EMU, making 24 starts. She was one of just two Eagles to appear in every match this season. The sophomore led Eastern in kills with 326 and kills per set at 3.08, while posting 17 double-digit kill performances. In addtion, the Solon, Iowa native notched five matches where she recorded 20-or-more kills. Her best contest came when she rattled off 24 kills versus Central Michigan, Nov. 10. Smith is a psychology major who boasts a 3.92 grade point average.
