Four wins fueled the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team to a solid lead on day one of the EMU Invitational Friday night, Dec. 2, at Jones Natatorium. The Eagles picked up three individual victories and a relay win while compiling a day one total of 424.5 points. EMU currently sits in first-place and holds a 175-point lead over second-place Wayne State.

The Green and White swept the top five spots on the 3-meter springboard to begin the meet. Senior Alex Chan (Toronto, Ontario-Neil McNeil Secondary) led the way with a season-best score of 359.45 to take first by roughly 40 points, while junior Peter Rusenas (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central) and freshman Noah Galluzzo rounded out the top-three. Rusenas wrapped up second with 319.70 points and Galluzzo secured third with a career-best score of 319.10 points.

From there, the Eagles turned their focus to the pool where senior Kyle Lichtenberg (Clarkston, Mich.) and freshman Alex Arrieta (Miami, Fla.-Doral Academy) increased EMU's point total in the 1650 freestyle. Lichtenberg clocked in 16:07.40 to take second, while Arrieta finished third.

Sophomore Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary) continued his dominant start in the 200 backstroke, edging out the second-place finisher by just under eight-tenths of a second. Meanwhile, senior Cole Bateman (Hutchinson, Minn.-Hutchinson) nabbed third with a time of 1:49.29.

Eastern Michigan benefited from another win in the 100 freestyle, as sophomore Jake Tyson (Ipswich, England-Northgate) bested the field with a time of 46.12.
From there, freshman Matthew Tsenkov (Sofia, Bulgaria-General Vladimir Stoychev) racked up a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke and junior Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory) added a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly before EMU closed out the day with a relay win.

The Eagles placed two relays within the top-three in the 400 Freestyle Relay, led by a first-place finish by the team of Tyson, freshman Mark Krusinski (Brecksville, Ohio-Brecksville Broadview Heights), Bateman, and Burton. Together, the relay squad clocked in nearly two seconds ahead of Wayne State's second-place relay, while EMU's other foursome rounded out the top-three.

Eastern wraps up the meet tomorrow, Dec. 3, at Jones Natatorium. The day gets underway with a morning session set to begin at 10 a.m. before the meet comes to a close in the evening session which is slated for 6 p.m.
