Eagles Wrap Up Findlay Oiler Opener

Findlay, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team wrapped up the Findlay Oiler Opener today, Dec. 10, down in Findlay, Ohio. The Eagles had a small contingent compete in the 60m hurdles, as well as some jumps and throws, in addition to wrapping up the heptathlon.
In the 60m hurdles, sophomore Frank Douglas (Mansfield, Ohio – Madison Comprehensive), and freshmen Ivan Suazo (Columbus, Ohio – Westland) and Devonte Findlay (Lauderhill, Fla. – Blanche Ely) all qualified into the finals after taking first, third, and fourth, respectively, in the prelims. Douglas bested his time from the prelims in the finals, bringing home the gold with a personal-best time of 8.13 seconds. Suazo also finished in the top-three, taking third in 8.21 seconds.
Moving to the jumps, Eastern brought home a pair of first-place finishes. Sophomore Micah Peters (York, Ontario – Vaughn Road Academy) won the triple jump with a mark of 14.04 meters/ 46 feet 0.75-inches, while fellow sophomore Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio – Bishop Hartley) won the high jump with a mark of 1.98 meters/ 6 feet 6-inches. Freshman Colin Etchen (Edgerton, Ohio – Edgerton) also took home a medal, placing second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.55 meters/ 14 feet 11-inches. Finally, freshman Jannik Schmitt (Plymouth, Mich. – Salem) competed in the shot put, finishing fifth with a throw of 13.76 meters/ 45 feet 1.75-inches.
The second half of the heptathlon also took place, with freshman Drew Lament (Lakeview, Ohio – Waynesfield-Goshen) bringing home fourth with a total of 4460 points, while sophomore Alex Jacobs (Dublin, Ohio – Dublin Jerome) was one spot behind in fifth with a career-best 4429 points. The pair dominated in the pole vault, with Jacobs taking first with a vault of 4.25 meters/ 13 feet 11.25-inches, while Lament was second at 4.05 meters/ 13 feet 3.5-inches. Lament also posted a top-three finish in the 1000m run, taking third with a time of 2:55.40.
The Eagles now have a break through the holidays, as their next event will be the Simmons Harvey Invitational, Jan. 14, in Ann Arbor, Mich.
