Men's Swimming & Diving Set to Host EMU Invitational

The two-day event hosted by the Eagles will take place Dec. 2-3

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Coming off roughly a three week break from competition, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team returns to the pool this weekend, Dec. 2-3, when it hosts the EMU Invitational at Jones Natatorium.

The annual event hosted by the Green and White has been a consistent source of success  as the Eagles have won the invitational 10 times since the 2005-06 campaign. Most recently, EMU posted its second-high point total in the past decade en route to its third consecutive EMU Invitational title. The Eagles scored 1,252 points thanks to exceptional performances by Andrew Henry, Chris Hodges, and Alex Chan (Toronto, Ontario-Neil McNeil Secondary). Henry turned in first-place finishes in the 100, 200, and 500 freestyle individually, while he helped the Eagles to top times in the 200, 400, and 800 Free Relay as well as the 400 Medley Relay. Meanwhile, Hodges swept the backstroke events in addition to teaming up for wins in the 200 and 400 Medley Relays. Chan led the way on the springboard for the Eagles, turning in a pair of 360+ scores to win both the 1 and 3-meter dives.

This season, Eastern will square off against Ashland, Tiffin, and Wayne State.

The Eagles enter the weekend after falling short against Oakland, 160-140, back on Nov. 12. Sophomore Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary) paced EMU with two victories, while junior Peter Rusenas (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central), sophomores Tom Gillis (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Citadel) and Jake Tyson (Ipswich, England-Northgate), and freshman Parker Saladin (Buchanan, Mich.-Buchanan) picked up one win apiece. For his performance, Kawaguchi was named the Mid-American Conference's Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season.

Action at the EMU Invitational is slated to begin at 3 p.m., Dec. 2, inside Jones Natatorium. Live results can be found here, while fans can also follow along on the MeetMobile app.
