Head Coach Sarah Brown discusses what the team has been up to throughout the fall

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Throughout the year, one staff member or student-athlete on the Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team will post a journal entry about what has been going on recently with the team, both inside and outside the gym. This week, Head Coach Sarah Brown discusses her first couple of months on the job, along with the team's recent intrasquad.

Hello Eagle Fans!

As I'm sure you've heard, I took over the Eastern Gymnastics program at the end of July and I'm so excited to be part of the EMU Family! At the start of the school year, I was privileged enough to hire Dallas Becerra as our recruiting coordinator and bars coach. Dallas is incredibly knowledgeable in the sport of gymnastics and his energy and passion for the sport are apparent every day at practice. I'm also thrilled to announce that Shea Anderson will stay on with the EMU Gymnastics staff another year. Shea brings a wealth of knowledge on vault and floor and has been a tremendous help as I've been getting acclimated to EMU.

Our team has been working hard since the start of official practice on September 11th. It's been a pleasure getting to know each athlete and building a relationship with each team member along the way. They've taken part in various community service events, including the Walk to End Alzheimer's event on October 9th, when the team raised over $2,500 to support the cause! In addition, the team is working hard in the classroom as they attempt to surpass last year's impressive 3.65 cumulative GPA!

Recently, we had our first four-event intrasquad and we placed the athletes onto two teams to show their Halloween Spirit. We provided candy to those in attendance and even raffled off a few EMU Gymnastics prizes! Both teams had impressive performances by our returning athletes and we're looking forward to adding our freshmen to the line-up during season. Ultimately, the Superheroes came out on top, but overall we learned a lot about our team and I'm excited for our next intrasquad that will take place on November 21st in Warner Gymnasium.

As I mentioned, I'm thrilled to be a part of such a supportive administration and community, and I hope to see you all at our meets this year!  Please be sure to follow us on Instragram and Twitter and like our Facebook page for frequent updates about the team!

Go Eagles!
