During the early signing period, the Eagles nabbed two strong student-athletes
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team signed a pair of talented student-athletes during the early signing period, announced today, Nov. 28, by Head Coach John Goodridge.
The Eagles will bring in Matt Bull (Mentor, Ohio - Mentor), a promising mid-distance and distance runner, and Owen Richardson, a solid sprinter from England.
"In my opinion, Matt is one of the most improving cross country recruits in Ohio," remarked Goodridge. "A former hockey player, his 1:55 junior year 800 meters is a good indicator of promising leg speed and lots of room for development in the longer distances."
As previously mentioned, Bull will come to Ypsilanti after primarily running mid-distance at the high school level. Throughout the 2016 indoor season, he took part in the 800 meters five times, turining in four top-five finishes, including a pair of victories. He also has experience running relays, as he took part in the 4x800m relay six times during the 2015 outdoor season, finishing first four times and second twice.
"Owen joins us as one of the very best young long sprinters in England," stated Goodridge. "He was ranked third in England among Under-23s and placed second in the English Under-23 400-meter championship. His marks include 10.59/21.53 and 47.22."
Richardson has been successful on the national stage for quite some time, as he took home bronze in the under-15 300m back in 2013. He was also selected to compete in the English Schools' Track & Field Championships this past June, as he ran in the 400m. Finally, Richardson won both the under-20 100m and 200m at the Hampshire Track & Field Championships back in May.
The duo will join the Eagles next year for the 2017-18 season, as they were part of the early signing period this year.
