Eagles of the Week Presented by EMU Credit Union

Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMU Credit Union's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are women's cross country runner Jordann McDermitt and wrestler Kyle Springer.

Week's Achievements: McDermitt capped off her incredible season this past weekend at the NCAA Championships, Nov. 19. McDermitt helped the Eagles to a ninth-place team finish at the national championships, which was both a program-best, and the best finish in MAC history. Individually, the Davison, Mich. native clocked in at 20:14.6 to take 24th, which was good for All-American honors. McDermitt becomes just the second Eagle to earn All-American status, and the first since 1987.

Position: 141 lbs.
Year: R-Junior
Major: Exercise science
Week's Achievements: Springer captured the 141 lbs. crown at the Keystone Classic, Dec. 20. The redshirt junior went up against some of the top competition in his weight class to win the title. Springer got his day started with a huge upset, defeating No. 11 ranked Jimmy Gulibon of Penn State by 8-5 decision. Gulibon was ranked No. 1 in the tournament. He followed that up with a 12-6 decision in the quarterfinals, and then a 6-4 decision over the No. 4 seeded Robert Lee of Pitt. In the finals, Springer upended another Nittany Lion, this time Kade Moss, by 5-2 decision to take the 141 lbs. title. His efforts led EMU to a third place team finish out of 12 teams.
