The senior led the Eagles in their dominating finish at the MAC Championships

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Mid-American Conference announced today, Nov. 2, that No. 25 Eastern Michigan University men's cross country senior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. - Mason) was named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week for his performance at the MAC Championships, Oct. 29.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented weekly to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. As a senior art major, Raymond maintains a 3.61 GPA.

Raymond paced the Eagles in a fantastic overall team performance at the conference championships, as the Eagles secured their seventh consecutive MAC title, along with the program's 21st overall. Eastern controlled the race from start to finish, ultimately sweeping the top-five spots on the podium, resulting in a perfect team score of 15 points, which was a MAC record.

Individually, Raymond was at the front of the pack for a majority of the race along with his teammates. However, the Erie, Mich. native edged out his fellow harriers at the finish line, being the first to cross after posting a time of 25:10.0. This marked Raymond's second straight MAC Individual Title after he also won the crown last season.

Raymond and the Eagles continue the postseason next week, Friday, Nov. 11, with the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Madison, Wis.
