For just the second time in program history, the No. 24 Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team will compete at the NCAA Championships as a team, Saturday, Nov. 19, in Terre Haute, Ind.

"We're excited to get on the starting line and compete against an elite field," remarked Head Coach Sue Parks. "Qualifying for this meet was a big goal of ours this season, and we want to make the most of the experience. We don't plan on changing anything from what we've done throughout the season. We've been successful in big meets by sticking to our own race plan and continuing to move up throughout the race. If our front runners have a strong race and we can keep our 1-5 gap close, I feel that we have a chance at moving up from our ranking and breaking into the top-15 teams."

The Green and White its their at-large bid to the national championships last Saturday, Nov. 12, one day after the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. Last weekend's race saw the squad finish fifth in the extremely tough region after totaling 102 points, which was just 11 behind second-place finisher Notre Dame.

Junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) paced the squad throughout the race, ultimately finishing fifth. The all-region honoree clocked in with a time of 19:59.5, which was a personal-best 6,000-meter time by nearly 30 seconds.

"Jordann has had a breakthrough cross country season," explained Parks. "I think that she has a very good chance at All-American honors if she runs the same kind of race that she did at the MAC and regional meets."

Although the Eagles have had a number of individual qualifiers throughout the years, this marks just the second time in program history that the entire team will compete in the national championships. The only other season that the team qualified was in 1996, when the Eagles finished 22nd.

The Green and White will be joined by 12 other at-large teams, including Air Force, Brigham Young, Iowa State, Michigan State, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Portland, San Francisco, UCLA, Utah, Wisconsin, and Yale.

The NCAA Championships will take place in Terre Haute, Ind. at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, with the women kicking things off at 11 a.m., while the men will race at noon. The race will be livestreamed by FloTrack, which requires a FloPRO subscription. To view the live stream, please click here. For more information on the championships, please click here.
