Tosh Kawaguchi Adds Another MAC Award to His Mantle

Kawaguchi reeled in his second MAC Swimmer of the Week honor of the season
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Sophomore Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary) of the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team was named Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week for the period ending Nov. 13, the league office announced today, Nov. 17. Thursday's announcement marks the second time Kawaguchi has garnered the league accolade this season.
Kawaguchi was the Eagles' top point-scorer against Oakland University, Nov. 12, turning in some of the best times around the conference this season. The Cary, N.C. native totaled a team-high 20 points against the Golden Grizzlies, including his third sweep of the backstroke this season. In the 100 back, Kawaguchi touched in with the fastest time in the MAC this season at 49.71. The trend carried over to the 200 back, where the Eagles posted the top-three times in the league. Kawaguchi led the way, claiming first to complete the sweep, with a time of 1:48.35. He also helped EMU to a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. His day came to a close in the 200 IM, where he posted the seventh-fastest time by a MAC swimmer this season, clocking in in 1:53.19.
Earning the award for the second time this year, Kawaguchi became the first Eagle since Andrew Henry to be honored by the conference multiple times in a season, as Henry garnered the distinction three times during the 2015-16 campaign.
Kawaguchi and the Eagles return to competition, Dec. 2-3, at the EMU Invitational. The first day of competition is slated to begin at 3 p.m. at Jones Natatorium.
