NCAA Qualification Release

INDIANAPOLIS (EMUEagles.com) -
The NCAA announced today, Nov. 12, that senior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. - Mason) of the No. 25 Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team received an at-large bid to the upcoming NCAA Championships, Nov. 19.

"Both team and coach are very proud of Nick for qualifying to the NCAA National Championships for the second year in a row," stated Head Coach John Goodridge. "I am so happy for him and very, very proud of him."

The qualification comes one day after Raymond's strong performance at the tough NCAA Great Lakes Regional, Nov. 11. The Erie, Mich. native was near the front of the pack throughout the entire race, as he held onto fifth at the 8,000-meter mark. The final strech of the race saw him hold onto that spot, as he ultimately took fifth-place with a career-best time of 30:25.2.

This marks the second consecutive season in which Raymond qualified to the NCAA Championships, as he also received an at-large bid last year. That time around, the senior ran to a 154th-place finish, clocking in at 31:29.8 against the top runners in the country.

Raymond continues the trend of Eagles who have won the individual MAC title and went on to qualify to the NCAA Championships. The list of EMU harriers to accomplish this feat include greats Boaz Cheboiywo, Gavin Thompson, Gordon Minty, and Corey Nowitzke.

As the Eagles as a whole did not receive an at-large bid, the team portion of the season has come to an end. The Green and White had one of their strongest seasons in recent history, as they defeated a number of tough, ranked teams throughout the year, in addition to winning their seventh consecutive Mid-American Conference Championships in record fashion.

The NCAA Championships will take place Saturday, Nov. 19, in Terre Haute, Ind.
