YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team closed out the regular season at home Thursday afternoon, Oct. 27, against Central Michigan University. CMU (14-2-3, 6-2-3 MAC) used a goal with just over 10 minutes remaining to top the Eagles (6-9-4, 4-5-2 MAC), 1-nil.
Central Michigan held a 7-2 edge in shots in the first half, but four first half saves by sophomore Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka) kept the match scoreless at halftime.
In the second half, the Eagles attack turned up their play a notch, outshooting the Chips, 9-8, in the period. Senior Michelle Rollins (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) pinged a shot off the cross bar and fellow senior Ellie Tillar's (Cincinnati, Ohio-Turpin) header soared wide, keeping the match locked at zero with 15 minutes to play.
After fighting off a few shots by Central, the Eagles' inability to successfully clear the ball gave possession right back to the Chippewas. Capitalizing on the opportunity, CMU's Jamie Rademacher ripped a shot from the far sideline, but Williams made a save through traffic. The rebound dribbled out to the top of the 18, where Marle Bringard buried a shot to lift CMU to a 1-nil lead.
The Green and White pieced together a handful of scoring opportunities down the stretch, but could not find the equalizer, eventually falling 1-nil.
The setback snapped a six-game unbeaten streak for the Eagles and marked their first regulation loss since Sept. 30, when EMU fell short against Ball State, 3-1.
EMU now turns its focus to the Mid-American Conference Tournament. As the No. 7 seed, the Eagles will travel to Kent, Ohio for a rematch with No. 2 seeded Kent State University, Sunday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m.
