YPSILANTI, Mich. The Eagles, who have won six straight MAC titles, will look to extend their streak to seven, and claim the 21st conference championship in program history.
"MAC Championship week is always an exciting week for us," remarked Head Coach John Goodridge. "The team is looking forward to putting on their uniforms and competing for a championship."
Eastern closed out the regular season last week at the annual EMU Fall Classic, Oct. 21. The Eagles utilized the opportunity to rest their top harriers and allow others to gain race experience. Leading the charge for the Green and White was redshirt freshman Colin Burdette (Hilliard, Ohio - Hilliard Davidson), who had a late-race surge to claim 25th overall with a time of 16:07.9. For his efforts, Burdette secured his first MAC Runner of the Week honor, which was also the team's fourth of the season.
Behind Burdette, sophomore Morgan O'Flahrity (Madison, Wis. - Edgewood) had a solid race as well, finishing 30th with a time of 16:14.3. Junior Nick McFarland (Hillsborough, N.J. - Hillsborough) nabbed 33rd in 16:25.2, while fellow junior Tom Jozwiak (Southgate, Mich. - Thomas J. Anderson) took 35th after crossing the finish line in 16:28.0.
Last season's MAC Championships saw the Eagles run away with their sixth consecutive title, as senior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. - Mason) secured the individual title after crossing the finish line in 24:10.28. Willy Fink, the 2014 individual champion, had a strong race as well, bringing home the silver with a time of 25:15.92. Overall, EMU had five harriers finish within the top-10, and seven within the top-15.
Collectively, seven Eagles landed on the All-MAC teams, which matched the most for the program since 2006. Goodridge also made history at the event, as he led his squad to their 20th conference title in program history, which tied Miami's conference record. Individually, Goodridg won his 11th title as EMU's head coach, increasing his own lead as the winningest coach in conference history. Additionally, he also reeled in his 10th MAC Coach of the Year honor.
Eastern will square off with eight other MAC schools, inculding two within the top-15 of the Great Lakes Region, where the Eagles sit at No. 3. Ohio currently holds the No. 11 spot in the region, while Miami sits at No. 12. Buffalo also holds a top-15 spot within their respective region, as they sit at No. 11 in the Northeast Region. Also in attendance will be Akron, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Kent State, and Toledo.
The MAC Championships will be held at the Kent State University Golf Course, beginning at 11 a.m. with the women's 6,000-meter race. The men will follow shortly after, as their 8,000-meter race will start at noon.
