Martinovska and Mayerova Remain Alive at ITA Regional

The duo from the Czech Republic moved on to the round of 16

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University's women's tennis team took part in day two of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Friday, Oct. 21, in East Lansing, Mich. Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic-Sport and Management School) and Marie Mayerova (Krmelin, Czech Republic) teamed up and made it to the ITA Regionals' Round of 16.

Mayerova began the day in the quarterfinals of the singles qualifying round versus Michigan State's Aslina Chua. The sophomore from Krmelin, Czech Republic fell, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, to bow the Eagles out of singles action.

In doubles play, Martinovska and Mayerova received a first round bye, while the Green and White's other two doubles teams fell in the opening round. The Czech duo moved on to defeat Bowling Green's Megan Horn and Ayumi Sasaki, 8-2. With the second round win, the duo moved on to the ITA Midwest Regional doubles round of 16. The squad will take on the No. 8-ranked squad of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp from Northwestern at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22.
