The Eagles begin the 2016-17 season at home, Oct. 22, against Denison
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team begins the 2016-17 at home this weekend, Oct. 22, against the Big Red of Denison University.
"We are excited to finally be stepping onto the blocks for the first time this season," Head Coach Peter Linn said. "Denison has a long tradition of success in swimming and we have enjoyed competing against them and look forward to an exciting and fun afternoon of competition."
Led by a strong veteran group made up of seniors Carly Jackson (LaPorte, Ind.-LaPorte), Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area), Sierra Wagner (Huntsville, Texas-Huntsville), Genna Worthley (Portland, Maine-Deering), and Mary Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central), the Eagles are primed to build off of the success of their undefeated dual record from a season ago with the addition of freshmen Claire Young (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Pointe South), Kylie Sutherlin, Casey Gavigan (East Setauket, N.Y.-Ward Melville), Sydney Thomas, and several others.
Three-time NCAA Division III Champion Denison travels to Ypsilanti after taking the top spots at the Kenyon Relays and Denison Diving Relays, Oct. 15. DU has finished inside the top-six at the NCAA Championships in each of the past 25 years. The Eagles are one of five NCAA Division I teams on the Big Red's schedule this season. Last year, DU competed against Northwestern, UIC, Ohio State, Xavier, Miami, and Ohio. The Big Red picked up wins over Xavier and UIC en route to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships.
The Eagles dual against Denison is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m. in Jones Natatorium, Oct. 22. Live results will be available for the meet by clicking here.
