YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -
The No. 27 Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team will conclude the regular season by hosting the annual EMU Fall Classic this Friday, Oct. 21, at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich. The meet will provide a final opportunity to tune-up issues before the postseason begins next week.

"Hosting this year's Cross Country Classic is especially nice, as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the 1966 NAIA National Cross Country Champions," remarked Head Coach John Goodridge. "We look forward to welcoming them back and other alumni at the meet and post-race social."

Last week, the Eagles had arguably their best meet of the season, as the squad defeated five ranked teams at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, Oct. 14. The Green and White finished 17th as a team, beating then No. 15 Eastern Kentucky, No. 22 Michigan State, No. 24 Providence, No. 25 Penn, and No. 29 Illinois. Based on their performance, the Eagles jumped into the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) coaches' poll, appearing at No. 27 yesterday, Oct. 18.

Individually at the Wisconsin Invite, senior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. - Mason) had a strong meet, utilizing a nice final 2,000-meters to jump from 76th to his final placing of 54th. Raymond clocked in at 24:38.3, while junior Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium - Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven) was just behind him in 64th after crossing the finish line in 24:46.3. For his efforts, Raymond was honored as the Mid-American Conference Runner of the Week yesterday, Oct. 18, which was his second honor of the season.

Behind Raymond and Bouchikhi, redshirt junior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - Mountain Ridge) rounded out EMU's top-three, nabbing 75th after posting a time of 24:51.4. Finally, junior Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary - Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium) jumped up the standings in the final 2,000-meters as well, ultimately finishing 89th in 24:55.2.

The Eagles will be squaring off with a number of solid teams, including No. 14 Michigan and No. 29 Michigan State. Additionally, Bowling Green, Cleary, Concordia, Kalamazoo, Lansing CC, Schoolcraft, Toledo, Western Michigan, Windsor, and Wright State will be in attendance.

The 5,000-meter race will kick off with the women starting at 4:30 p.m., and the men following thereafter at 5 p.m. Shortly after the conclusion of the men's race, the Eagles will host a celebration to honor the 1966 men's cross country NAIA National Champions.
