Following another impressive showing at the Pre-Nationals Invitational, Oct. 15, the Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team remains in the top-30 teams nationally, as ranked by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) coaches' poll. This week, the Eagles come in at No. 14, the team's best ranking in program history.

"We've worked very hard to get to this point as a team, and a program, and it's nice to be recognized by the coaches that vote on the poll," explained Head Coach Sue Parks. "However, we know that we need to continue to work hard and that nothing is going to be handed to us. We still feel like we have a lot of room for improvement this season, and we're hoping to be at our best for the upcoming MAC and regional championships."

Within the rankings, EMU currently sits one spot ahead of No. 15 Iowa State and one spot behind No. 13 San Francisco. With the men also being ranked in the poll, this marks the first time in EMU history that both teams have been represented in the poll at the same time.

The program-best ranking comes on the heels of EMU's seventh-place finish at the Pre-Nationals Invitational, Oct. 15. There, the Eagles downed another ranked opponent in then No. 22 Virginia, in addition to a slew of teams receiving votes in the coaches' poll. In total, Eastern improved their team finish at the event by 17 places in comparison to last season when they took 24th.

The Green and White also climbed to No. 2 in the tough Great Lakes Region after being No. 3 in the previous rankings. Eastern managed to jump ahead of No. 27 Michigan State after their performance at Pre-Nationals.

In addition, the Eagles also improved their ranking within FloTrack's Saucony Flo50 Women's Team Cross Country Rankings. Yesterday, Oct. 17, FloTrack slotted Eastern Michigan as No. 13 in the nation, one spot behind Baylor and one spot ahead of San Francisco. This marks an increase of three spots within the ranking, as they were previously listed at No. 16 following the Notre Dame Invitational.

The Eagles will host the annual EMU Fall Classic this Friday, Oct. 21, at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich. The next week, Eastern will begin the postseason and travel down to Kent, Ohio for the MAC Championships, Oct. 29
