NEW ORLEANS (EMUEagles.com) -
The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today, Oct. 18, that the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team was voted as the No. 27 cross country squad in the nation. The ranking marks the first time since 2006 that the Eagles appeared in the coaches' poll.

"It's nice to receive this recognition, but our focus centers around winning the upcoming MAC Championships and running well at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in November," explained Head Coach John Goodridge.

Eastern currently sits one spot ahead of No. 28 Air Force, and one spot behind No. 26 Virginia Tech. Additionally, the Green and White are the only Mid-American Conference program represented in the poll. With the women also being ranked in the poll, this marks the first time in EMU history that both teams have been represented in the poll at the same time.

The honor follows the team's strong performance at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, Oct. 14, in which the squad defeated a number of ranked teams after finishing 17th with 421 points. Specifically, Eastern bested then No. 15 Eastern Kentucky, No. 22 Michigan State, No. 24 Providence, No. 25 Penn, and No. 29 Illinois.

Additionally, the Eagles also improved their standing within the Great Lakes Region. The Eagles moved up to No. 3 in the tough region after being No. 5 previously, jumping ahead of No. 19 Indiana and No. 29 Michigan State.

EMU closes out the regular season this Friday, Oct. 21, with the annual EMU Fall Classic. The women will begin the event at 4:30 p.m., while the men will follow shortly after at 5 p.m.
