Two weeks removed from the Notre Dame Invitational, Sept. 30, the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team will resume action at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, this Friday, Oct. 14, in Madison, Wis. The Eagles will be facing an extremely tough field of teams, including the top three squads in the nation according to the most recent United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll.

"After having placed third in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships last year and being the last team not selected for an at-large selection to the NCAA National Championships the past two years in a row, Wisconsin head coach Mick Byrne approached me with an invitation to compete in this year's event," explained Head Coach John Goodridge. "I immediately accepted, as this is the level of competition we strive for. "

In their most recent race, the Eagles nabbed 12th at the Notre Dame Invite, beating a pair of ranked teams in No. 30 Texas and No. 30 Florida State. Individually, senior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. - Mason) led the Green and White in his debut race, clocking in at 24:01.9 to take 15th. Raymond's time was also a career-best five-mile time by nearly 22 seconds.

Behind Raymond, redshirt junior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - Mountain Ridge) continued his solid season, placing 26th after crossing the finish line in 24:11.5. Like Raymond, Andresson's time was also a personal-best, his being 15 seconds quicker than his previous best time.

The Eagles will have their work cut out for them in Madison, as 19 of the top 30 teams in the nation will be in attendance. The tough field of teams includes No. 1 Northern Arizona, No. 2 Syracuse, No. 3 BYU, No. 7 Portland, No. 8 Iona, No. 11 Stanford, No. 14 Iowa State, No. 15 Eastern Kentucky, No. 16 Wisconsin, No. 17 Georgetown, No. 18 Boise State, No. 21 Colorado State, No. 22 Michigan State, No. 23 Washington, No. 24 Providence, No. 25 Penn, No. 26 Tulsa, No. 27 UCLA, and No. 29 Illinois.

The meet will be held on the beautiful Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, which is located adjacent to the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison. The day will begin with the women's 6,000-meter 'B' race at 11 a.m., followed by the men's 8,000-meter 'B' race at 11:40 a.m. The championship races kick off at 12:30 with the women's 6,000-meter race, while the Eagles will take part in the men's 8,000-meter race at 1:20 p.m.

FloTrack will be providing a live stream of the event, which is available to view with a FloPRO subscription. For more information on the event stream, please click here. For more information on the meet as a whole, please click here.
