YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — On the fourth day of practice, the Eastern Michigan University football team had their initial taste of pads popping as they donned shoulder pads for the first time Thursday, Aug. 13. The intensity was high on the grass practice field as the team was able to make intermediate contact before having their first full pads practice tomorrow.
The fourth opportunity to practice was still met with the overarching theme of ball control and controlling the turnover battle, as all of the coaches continued to preach the "high and tight" methodology when carrying the football. The offense saw an improvement from day one as there was only one interception recorded by the defense.
The offensive highlight of the day came from redshirt-junior wide receiver Jalen Echols, who made a leaping catch over a defender on the sideline en route to a touchdown, which drew whoops and hollers from his teammates.
The team will have its first full pads practice of the season tomorrow, before it has its first two-a-day on Saturday. Tomorrow will also be Alumni Day at the practice field, where all former EMU football alumni are invited back to attend the day's activities, as well as get the opportunity to connect with current players and former teammates.
"They'll definitely be some excitement," Head Coach Chris Creighton remarked of tomorrow's practice. "There was excitement the first day, there was excitement the second day, and there was excitement today when we went helmets and shoulder pads. There's a really good energy with this team."
The Eagles will open their 124th season on the gridiron with a non-conference home game against Old Dominion Saturday, Sept. 5, in Rynearson Stadium. Single game and season tickets are now on sale online at EMUEagles.com, by calling 734.487.2282 or by visiting the EMU Ticket Office daily between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Single game ticket prices start at just $20 for adults and $8 for youth 12-and-under.
