YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Head Gymnastics Coach Jay Santos announced the signing of Ciara Greshman for the upcoming 2016 season. Greshman joins the Eagles from Shiloh, Ill. and most recent competed at the 2015 Junior Olympics National Championships.
"It is always great to add an athlete of Ciara's quality and we are very excited to be adding her to our 2015-16 team," remarked Santos. "She is coming off a fantastic senior year and just finished 10th in the nation at JO Nationals. She is an extremely powerful gymnast and that really shows on vault and floor where she excels. I'm very confident that she will come in as a freshman and have an immediate impact for this team."
The level 10 gymnast placed 10th in the Senior D division after scoring a 37.600 in all around. Her best finish came in the floor exercise where she tied for eighth with a 9.525. Her all around score at the JO National Championships marked her best career performance, topping her previous best of 37.300.
Gresham took fourth in the Region Five Level 10 Championships when she placed in the top-10 in all four categories, including a tie for second in the floor exercise. In the 2015 State Championship, Gresham won the vault title for the second-straight season. Her score (9.725) in 2015 was her second-best all-time, while her best came just a season prior with a 9.750 in the 2014 state meet.
In addition to Gresham, Santos announced that Sydney Audet and Katie Ford will be joining the 2016 EMU gymnastics squad as walk-ons.
"The addition of Sydney and Katie really rounds out our in coming class," stated Santos. "They will both help to add quality depth at several events, which we absolutely needed after graduating such a large class last year."
Audet began competing at level 10 during 2015, following her time as a level 9 previously. In her first year at level 10, Audet made a solid showing, making it to the Region Five Level 10 Championships. The Sylvania, Ohio native placed 17th overall, while posting a pair of top-10 marks. Audet took ninth in the vault and bars with scores of 9.375 and 9.325, respectively. As a level 9 during 2014, Audet took home the Region Five Championship crown with a score of 37.300.
Ford joins the Eagles after her first year as a level 10 as well. The Bartlett, Ill. native finished the 2015 Region Five Championship in 29th place, but took home an eighth place finish in the beam at 9.275. Prior to the regional meet, Ford made quite the showing at the 2015 Illinois State Championships, placing fifth all around with a score of 36.350.
