Student-Athletes combine for a record 3.259 GPA during Winter Semester

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – With 11 consecutive semesters of a grade point average of better than 3.0, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics continued its run of outstanding performance in the classroom. The Winter 2015 semester saw EMU student-athletes combine for a 3.259 grade point average, the best in school history. More than 70 percent of EMU's student-athletes completed their coursework with a cumulative GPA of better than 3.0.

"Champions Built Here has been our message all year long," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Heather Lyke. "When we talk about champions we mean champions in every sense - athletically, academically and personally.   We believe you build what you emphasize and recognize. Our student-athletes are definitely champions in the classroom!  We are extremely proud of their record breaking semester. Their academic performance is a direct reflection of the quality of student-athletes our coaches recruit and the individual efforts of all of our student-athletes.  There is a tremendous culture of academic excellence at Eastern Michigan and these winter GPAs demonstrate those expectations."

Additionally, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes was the department's all-time best at 3.204.

The golf team led all men's teams in Winter 2015 with a 3.425 GPA, while the best women's GPA was turned in by the cross country team at 3.707. There were 32 student-athletes who posted 4.0 GPAs during the fall semester while 340, or 69 percent, had 3.0 or better GPAs.
