Hurcombe on Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List

Redshirt-junior played in four games in 2014 before being injured


YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University football's Jake Hurcombe (Lincolnshire, Ill.-Stevenson) has been selected to the spring watch list for the 2015 Rimington Trophy, honoring the nation's top center. The award committee announced the 50-player list Tuesday, May 19.

Heading into his redshirt-junior season, Hurcombe has played in 16 career games with 14 starts (11 at center/three at guard). A Third Team Preseason All-MAC honors from Athlon Sports, the Lincolnshire, Ill. managed just three starts in 2014 before suffering a season-ending injury.

The season prior, Hurcombe played in all 12 games for Eastern, starting 11 of them on the offensive line. He collected Academic All-Mid-American Conference accolades with a 3.73 GPA in general business.

The winner of the Rimington Trophy will be chosen through cumulative votes of three All-America teams, including the Walter Camp Football Foundation, the Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America. The winner will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Neb., Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016.

The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I College Football. Since its inception, the Rimington Trophy has raised over $2.6 million for the cystic fibrosis community. The 14-year-old award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $115 million for CF Research.

Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
