Men's Basketball Earns NCAA Statistical Champion Distinction

EMU finished the regular season with the best field goal percentage defense in the nation
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team earned this season's NCAA Statistical Championship for field goal percentage defense. The Eagles held teams to just a 36.9 field goal percentage. The award goes to the team that ranks No. 1 overall in the nation in a respective category.
On top of earning the best field goal percentage in the country, the Green and White allowed opponents to score just 61.4 points per contest, which was 16th in the nation, while blocking the 10th most shots per contest at six per game. Finally, the Eagles picked the opponents' pockets 8.3 times per game which ranked 15th in the NCAA.
Eastern Michigan's 2013-14 men's hoops team prided itself on defense en route to winning 22 games this season, the most since the 1996-97 season, while also making its way to the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals for the first time since the 1997-98 season. EMU also made its first postseason tournament, earning a berth in the 2014 CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
