Eastern Moves on to the MAC Semifinals After Defeating Bowling Green

EMU will take on the No .2 seed Ball State Saturday at Noon

OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Heading into the first round of the 2014 Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Championships as the No. 3 seed, the Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team defeated No. 6 Bowling Green State University, 4-0, at the Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts Friday, April 25. With the victory the Eagles move on the take on the No. 2 seed, Ball State University Saturday, April 26, at 2 p.m.
 
Eastern started off by picking up the first point in doubles play. Klara Supejova and Nino Mebuke continued their winning ways at No. 1 doubles by defeating Drew Fillis and Emily Reuland, 8-3, remaining undefeated versus MAC foes. Mariya Toncheva and Daphne Friedrichs sealed the first point with an 8-6 win over Harley Hutchinson and Hannah Drayton, 8-6, at No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished after the point was one.
 
In singles play, the Eagles swept the first three matches. Friedrichs was first to pick up a point by taking down Fillis, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5, while Maria Paula Ribero swept Hutchison, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 6 singles match. Finally, Toncheva closed out the dual by defeating Hannah Drayton, 6-0, 6-2, completing the first round contest between Bowling Green and Eastern.
 
"We did a great job of taking our strengths to the opponent today," stated Head Coach Ryan Ray. " I was pleased with the efficient play.  Tomorrow should be another great battle with Ball State and we will be ready."
 
The Eagles will take on No. 2-seeded Ball State tomorrow, April 26, at 2 p.m. in Oxford. The winner of that match will move on to square off with the winner of No. 4 Buffalo versus No. 1 Miami on Sunday, April 27, at noon.
