Inaugural charity event will be held before men’s basketball squares off with NIU, March 1
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Pakmode Media + Marketing have teamed up for the inaugural Taste of Ypsilanti, benefiting SOS Community Services.
The event, which will take place on Saturday, March 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the EMU Convocation Center, will feature a number of local restaurants including Ahmo's, Tower Inn, Aubree's, Red Rock BBQ, and Buffalo Wild Wings of Ypsilanti.
Fans and community members will have the opportunity to purchase $1 tickets that can be redeemed at the vendors' tables for samplings of their menu favorites.
All proceeds from the event will go towards SOS Community Services, an Ypsilanti non-profit that was founded by EMU students, with the mission to end homelessness in Washtenaw County.
"Having partnered with SOS in the past, we know how important this organization is to our community and it's important to both Pakmode and EMU to be strong community partners for organizations that do so much for our community," said Chelsea Acho, Director of Sales & Retail Operations for Pakmode Media + Marketing. "Not only can fans come out and support a great cause, but they can enjoy the convenience of some of the area's best restaurants serving food under one roof and catch a great basketball game in one of the best venues in Southeast Michigan."
The event will coincide with the EMU men's basketball contest versus Northern Illinois University, which is set to tip off at 2 p.m. The local restaurants will begin serving fans at 1p.m. and will continue until 3p.m., an hour into the basketball game. Taste of Ypsilanti will feature over 10 of the area's local establishments and does not require a ticket to the game as it will take place inside the Convocation Center atrium.
