Women's Basketball Ranked No. 17 In College Insider Mid-Major Poll

EMU and Bowling Green the only MAC teams ranked inside the top 25
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team is ranked 17th in the most recent College Insider Mid-Major Poll, announced Tuesday, Jan. 7, by coaches on the committee. EMU moved up five spots after being ranked 22nd in the Dec. 31 release.
The Eagles are 11-1 overall and 1-0 in Mid-American Conference play following an 88-70 victory at Kent State University, Jan. 4. Eastern, which surpassed its entire win total from the 2012-13 season in just nine games, features a high-powered offense that is posting 86.5 points per contest while allowing just 65.8.
This year's EMU squad tied the program's record for the quickest to 10 victories. The 2004-05 squad also bears the standard of reaching its 10th victory in game No. 11.
Eastern Michigan features four players who are averaging double figures in Janay Morton (Brooklyn Park, Minn.-Osseo), Cha Sweeney (Toledo, Ohio-Rogers), Desyree Thomas (Waterford, Mich.-Mott) and Olivia Fouty (Toledo, Ohio-Sylvania Northview).
Through the first 12 games of the season, there have been four (Madonna, Marygrove, Loyola and Kent State) contests in which EMU never trailed and fifth (Lawrence Tech) in which the Eagles were behind for only 58 seconds. This year to date, EMU has been ahead 80.6 percent of the time – and trailed for just 64:32 (14.5%).
The Eagles sit atop the Mid-American Conference in seven categories as well as ranking in the top-five in eight others. The Green and White lead the league in scoring offense (86.5), scoring margin (+20.8), rebounding offense (48.3), turnover margin (+10.9), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3), steals (13.0) and offensive rebounds (19.3).
The College Insider Mid-Major poll featured San Diego in the top slot, taking 30 first place votes. Gonzaga claimed second, BYU garnered third, while Bowling Green and Chattanooga rounded out the top five.
The Eagles will return to the Convocation Center Thursday, Jan. 9, as Ball State University (5-7 (0-1 MAC) comes to town for the MAC affair. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
