YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --
For more than 40 years, Bowen Field House was the home for Eastern Michigan University basketball. This season, Eastern Michigan will celebrate the 58th anniversary of the venerable building by returning to "The Old Barn" for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign.

The "Back to Bowen" celebration will include the Eagles hosting Concordia University, Nov. 12, Robert Morris University, Nov. 14, and an alumni game, Nov. 14. Additionally, the women's team will play Butler University in Bowen, Nov. 13. The first two games will tipoff at 7 p.m., while Thursday's finale will have the alumni game at 5 p.m. with the EMU-RMU game to follow at 7:30 p.m.

"The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is excited about returning to historic Bowen Field House for a series of game," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Heather Lyke. "Since Bowen Field House first opened in 1955, it has been the site of memories for thousands of student-athlete. In the years since EMU basketball left Bowen, many have dreamed of seeing it return for a throwback game. Thankfully, we are able to fulfill those dreams during the 2013-14 season. We look forward to celebrating three 'Back to Bowen' games will all of our fans, donors and alumni."

Bowen Field House saw 351 wins in its 43 years as the home of Eastern's men's basketball team. Cheering and applause echoed from the steel beams of the building leading John C. Fountain, Eastern's Hall of Fame radio announcer from 1963-2007, to refer to the building as "The Old Barn" and the name stuck.

The 1997-98 campaign marked the final full season for EMU at Bowen Field House before moving to the Convocation Center. However, the last official game played at Bowen was a 60-58 Eagle win over North Dakota State on Dec. 18, 2004, when the Eagles returned to the venue due to a facility conflict.

The Field House was named for the late Wilbur Pardon Bowen, a mathematics instructor and first head of the Department of Physical Education, 1894-1928. It was he who first established a teacher-training course in physical education. The 88,000 square foot building cost $1.25 million to construct in 1955. When it was built, it was one of the largest in the country including not only basketball, track, and baseball practice areas, but also facilities for outdoor activities like tennis and badminton.

"Going back to Bowen has been part of my vision since the day I was hired," said EMU Head Men's Basketball Coach Rob Murphy. "This event will continue to help connect the past, present and future for both basketball programs. I thank Nikki Borges and the athletics department staff for diligently working to make this become a reality."

"We are thrilled to be a part of this event," added Head Women's Basketball Coach Tory Verdi. "To have the opportunity to play at Bowen Field House and have our alumni return to campus will be one of the highlights of our season."

Seating for the games will be limited to approximately 2,000, as the basketball court will reflect the building's original setup  with the floor located in front of the balcony and the baskets at east and west ends of court.

Tickets for the contest will be $10 for the men's games and $8 for the women's game and will not be included with the season-ticket packages. A three-game package will be available for just $20.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public Thursday, Sept. 12, while season ticket holders have first chance to purchase tickets beginning Aug. 31.

A total of 500 tickets have been allotted for EMU students who will still be admitted for free. However,  students will need to pickup a ticket in advance of game day for admission.

The 500 student tickets for each game will be distributed three ways: 100 of the tickets will be given to certain members of the Eagle Nation Fan Section as well as the highest point getters of the Eagle Nation Rewards Program. 100 tickets will be used through social media initiatives on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. If you are not currently following us on those three platforms, be sure to do so to get your Back to Bowen tickets.
