Matt Shepard to be reunited with former Detroit Lion Rob Rubick

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) —The radio broadcast team for the 122nd season of Eastern Michigan University football will be comprised of longtime play-by-play voice Matt Shepard with former Detroit Lion standout Rob Rubick returning as the color analyst after a two-year hiatus.

WEMU will continue to serve as the FM flagship and originating station for EMU football and basketball broadcasts. In 2012-13, WEMU broadcast more than 50 live games, as well as interviews and stories during WEMU's news programs.

Listeners in eight counties can catch Eagles' games on 89.1 FM. As a public radio station with a large broad-based audience, WEMU's signal extends from Washtenaw County to the Detroit metropolitan and Toledo, Ohio markets. The broadcasts are also streamed live on WEMU.org, and WEMU's free Android and iPhone applications (available through iTunes).

The tandem of Shepard and Rubick have teamed up for the past four seasons as the preseason broadcast crew for the Detroit Lions Television Network.  They are also the co-hosts of the weekly regular season pregame show The Ford Lions Report on WXYZ-TV in Detroit.

The 2013 season marks the 13th year that veteran Detroit-area broadcaster Matt Shepard will call the action on the field for the EMU football broadcast team. Shepard first handled EMU football play-by-play duties during the 1999 season. He returned in 2002, and has held the post for 10 straight seasons. A widely known football and basketball broadcaster, Shepard is the voice of University of Michigan men's basketball team as well as the morning drive host on WDFN (1130 AM) in Detroit.

During his career, he has called NFL Europe games for FOX and, in 2005, Arena Football League games for Fox Sports and was the broadcast voice for a pair of WNBA Championships by the Detroit Shock. Shepard's Fox Sports Detroit resume also includes extensive work as a reporter for the Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons and Detroit Tigers, and play-by-play work for the Michigan High School Athletic Association football state finals and the CCHA hockey television package.

After two years as part of the Grand Valley State University radio crew, Rubick reunites with Shepard in the booth. Rubick worked 12 years (1998-2010) as part of the EMU broadcast team before returning to his alma mater. Following an seven-year career as a tight end with the Detroit Lions, Rubick has established himself as a superb analyst, providing detailed and pertinent commentary from an insider's perspective.

Rubick's broadcasting resume includes analyst work for Grand Valley State University, Detroit Fury and MHSAA game broadcasts. Rubick received a master's degree in education from EMU.

Jeff Fulton also returns after a two-year absence to serve as the on-site executive producer and statistician. The 2013 season marks the 27th year Fulton has been a part of the EMU broadcast team. At one point, he has worked an incredible 188 straight EMU football games. A fixture in the Ypsilanti community and a longtime EMU supporter, Fulton was previously the communications director for the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department.

EMU undergraduate student Marcus Stefanide will provide the halftime updates as the J. Clarence and Courtney S. Fountain Sportscasters Scholarship honoree.
