EMU swimmer named to the Capital One Academic District 5 Team
McLEAN, Va. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving's Briana Emig (Sewickley, Pa.-Ambridge) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women's At-Large First Team in District Five by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), May 17. The fifth district is the geographical region of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio from which 11 players were chosen for this award.
Emig, who holds a 3.93 GPA in psychology/communication, was named the Mid-American Conference's Outstanding Senior at the 2013 MAC Championships. A member of the Academic All-MAC Team, she was a two-time MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week, an All-MAC First Team member and a NCAA Qualifier for the Eagles during the 2012-13 campaign.
The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has double the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian, and two-year schools.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-2013 DII and DIII Academic All-America teams program.
